Our Mission

The people of Sikkim have been living in harmony with nature and their own infrastructural creations and are flourishing in the field of science, culture, technology, and art in a commendable velocity every day owing to their potency. Our mission as TEDxGangtok is to become that force and provide significant escalation to the untapped talent and potential of its people. The first TEDx city event of Sikkim will feature ideas that will redefine our thinking and encourage a platform to bring together a network of forward-looking people who can interact with each other and make an impact on the future of Sikkim. TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world, and we believe that TEDxGangtok will be the start of a future with better innovation and powerful ideas that will change attitudes, lives of the people here making them more global in their thinking and ultimately making this state a better place to live in.

Our Theme

There is a noticeable hustle in the streets of Gangtok and a seemingly common sentiment that resonates amongst the youth here; the sentiment towards their homeland which unifies the diverse ethnic and lingual groups in this state. A drive to better their own future and subsequently and perhaps, unbeknownst to them, the future of the state itself. This drive needs to be harnessed and given proper direction so that its full potential to enhance the society's functioning is fulfilled.

A Eutopian dream is the realization of potentials of the different systems and institutions in a society. Unlike ‘Utopia’, which is a near impossible land, a Eutopian dream lies in the possibility of its achievability through advancement in the institutions of Education, Health, Technology, Law and Order and Art.
In order to achieve this modal state where everything is in perfect order and working effectively, the biggest agents in this functioning are the common citizens and people themselves.

Sculpting the Eutopian Dream
Sculpting the Eutopian Dream

TEDxGangtok is an event aimed at bringing forward ideas that can fuel the drive of the youth in the state and start a discourse that is essential and significant for the betterment of the society. A society that is accepting of newer technology and is also tolerant of diversity in their own communities and the communities across the world irrespective of caste, color, gender, class or religion. Where young minds can reach their true potential and are free to choose their own paths.

With talks focussing on social issues which need hearing and ideas about upcoming technology and reforms in education, healthcare and so on, this event will equip the youth and the people with diverse and trans-disciplinary ideas and help them become better and wholesome individuals who can go forth and use these ideas and sculpt this Eutopian Dream.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
